The Ballerinas cup plate made in collaboration with Jeff Koons, represents an image of the eponymous sculpture made between 2010 and 2014 from his mythical Antiquity series. Inspired by a small porcelain figurine representing two dancers, the artist transformed the readymade into a monumental sculpture 2.50 m high. The artwork communicates beauty, hope and assertiveness, while the reflective surface and subtle color nuances deal with time and metaphysics. Born in 1955 in York, Pennsylvania, Jeff Koons is without question one of the most important living artists. He is among the few who successfully extract the essentials from avantgardism, most notably Pop Art. In his hands, even the most familiar, everyday items transcend commonality to become true icons that manifest the essence of American popular culture.
